"Let us sing now the canticle of the three brothers..."?
ReplyDeleteI will never forget a chance encounter of mine with that of the boys choir of the Cathedral during a short service of some description that had me waiting in the back pew until it was finished. It was a hymn I'd never heard before:
ReplyDelete"Soul of My Saviour, Sanctify my breast,
Body of Christ be, thou my saving guest" to an unfamiliar tune I later found in an old hymnbook. I think it's named " Anime Christi".
I'm in the habit of knowing and liking, intensely sometimes, a good hymn after hearing the first line--this was one of them. I've never heard the hymn since-but it was 25 years ago--it obviously left a lasting impression.
Never give in to the temptation to think, even for one moment, that a hymn or prayer offered sincerely, goes unheard.
